Accelerated Middle School Math
MVA offers some accelerated math options for 6th and 7th grade students who demonstrate high academic achievement in mathematics and would like to work ahead in math in order to start their high school math courses sooner and advance further during their high school years. (*Math 5 Accelerated is a unique option that is approved for very advanced students.) Students will be assessed for readiness based on a process that your HST provides. Please reach out to your HST if you would like to be considered for accelerated middle school math.
Students who are accelerating in middle school are committing to 5-6 years of high school math courses. If this is not your plan, then accelerating math in middle school is not a fit for you.
Students must complete all grade levels of math through 8th grade before attempting Algebra I.
Algebra I readiness must be verified by an Algebra 1 readiness exam. However, students who complete a standards-aligned Math 8 curriculum will provide their body of work to demonstrate algebra readiness in place of the exam.*See your HST for standards-aligned curriculum ideas!
