Honors and Awards

The student's weighted GPA will be used to calculate award status. Honors, AP, and some community college courses do receive an extra grade point. If you have questions about the GPA or Class Rank, please reach out to your student's High School Counselor.

Honor Grads:

• Students who earn a high enough GPA are awarded with Honor Grad, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude status during the graduation ceremony.
• National Honor Society: National Honor Society members in good standing receive a gold and blue cord to wear for graduation

Breakdown of Honors:

Summa Cum Laude: The top 5% of the class, as calculated with the weighted GPA at the end of fall semester of the student’s graduating year. Valedictorians are recognized with a gold medal at graduation

Magna Cum Laude: The top 5.1-10% of the class, as calculated with the weighted GPA at the end of fall semester of the student’s graduating year. Salutatorians are recognized with a cord in the school colors (teal & white) at graduation

Honor Graduate: All students with a GPA of 3.75 and above, as calculated with the weighted GPA at the end of fall semester of the student’s graduating year. Honor grads are recognized with a white cord at graduation.

Golden State Merit:

• Students who demonstrate a certain level of mastery in their curriculum are eligible to receive a Golden State Seal on their high school diploma.
• Students must meet all eligibility criteria in at least 6 subject areas.
• Students usually meet these requirements towards the end of their high school journey. The counseling team reviews Golden State Merit criteria after each semester and will tag students as a Golden State Merit recipient if eligible.
• Recipients will receive a Golden State Merit seal on their diploma upon graduating and a gold cord during graduation.

Seal of Biliteracy:

• Students who have achieved a high level of literacy and fluency in one or more language(s) in addition to English will receive a California State Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diploma and a light blue cord during graduation.
• Students must meet all eligibility criteria in order to demonstrate proficiency in one or more language(s) in addition to English.
• Students will need to complete the CAASPP in order to qualify.
